Each year, we conduct dozens of comprehensive actuarial
studies. As a result of this extensive experience, we are able to compile
our results to develop comparative benchmarks for significant actuarial,
demographic, and operating statistics. We have calculated the quartiles
for 23 statistics that were derived from actuarial studies of clients
with fiscal years ending in 1999 to 2001 (*means that statistics are
based on preliminary results from studies completed as of May 2002).

FACTOID: The actuarial funded
status is a measure of the financial condition of a CCRC. Financially
strong organizations are typically fully funded (actuarial funded status
exceeds 100%). CCRCs from our 2001* database with an investment grade
rating from Standard & Poor's and Fitch have median funded statuses
of 102.2% and 99.4%, respectively. CCRCs from our 2001* database that
are accredited by the CCAC have a median funded status of 100.0%.
