Installing FINAID The FINAID program files must be installed on a local PC, not a server. The CCRC data files can be located in any directory on the local PC or network drive. If you store the data files on a network directory, they can be accessed by any workstation that has FINAID installed and the appropriate network directory mapped. However, only one user at a time can access the same files. Check that your computer meets the system requirements in section 4 and, if so, proceed with the installation: - Close all other applications. - Using Windows Explorer, locate the FINAID installation file, SETUP.EXE. - Double-click on this file to start the installation process and follow the instructions on the screen. After completing the installation, see Help Contents: Getting Started. 3. Applying a FINAID Update If you have the DOS version of FINAID, this section does not apply. Go to the instructions in section 2, "Installing FINAID". A. BEFORE INSTALLING THE UPDATE, BACKUP OR COPY THE COMMUNITY FILES IN YOUR FINAID 4 DATA DIRECTORY!!! The update process is not reversible. The file structures will be altered permanently and cannot be returned to your previous version. B. Applying the update: - Close all other applications. - Using Windows Explorer, locate the update file, WAUDxxxxxxxx.EXE, where xxxxxxxx is the update version number. - Double-click on this file to start the update process. Follow the instructions on the screen. The update process will search for your original installation of FINAID 4 and apply the update to that installation. 4. Significant Issues DOS FINAID users should be aware that results from the new Windows version are likely to be different due to refinements and improvements in the projection methodology. In general we have found that the DOS version generated more conservative results for the median and expected values of subsidy. Also, results for 75th and 95th percentiles tend to be more conservative. The exception is for cases where Medicaid or LTC benefits are considered. In those cases, the Windows results tend to be more conservative. Actual results for specific residents are likely to vary from these general comments, but the Windows version has undergone extensive validation testing and we believe that the underlying mathematics are accurate. Diagnostics options are included with the software if you wish to examine the results from a specific iteration. Please call your FINAID consultant to discuss any anomalous results. We strongly suggest that the user develop and apply corporate policies for financial screening that meet the charitable and fiscal goals of the community. See "Establishing Admission Guidelines" in the Help. 6.
